Directed by Stephen Sommers, the new movie entitled, GI Joe: The Rise of the Cobra is certainly a huge hit that will take the box office by storm. Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Stuart Beattie produced and wrote the film respectively. This movie features a great collection of cast that is based from the characters in the original toy franchise. This newest GI Joe movie was filmed in Downey, California and in the Barrandov Studios in Prague.
GI Joe: The Rise of the Cobra has an interesting scheme, which is basically all about how the Cobra Organization came about. If you do not know anything about them, watch the film and it will all make sense. Meanwhile, for those who know the Cobra Organization by heart, you will figure out how the team was developed. GI Joe: The Rise of the Cobra focuses on Ripcord, played by Marlon Wayans and Duke, played by Channing Tatum, as they are inducted in the GI Joe team. Their headquarters is known as the Pit, which is actually the original base for the group from the Marvel comic book in the year 1980. This high tech base has training facilities, briefing room, equipment storage and living quarters.
The movie has also a great line of cast including Channing Tatum as Duke or Conrad Hauser, who is the lead soldier. It was actually Mark Wahlberg who will play this role. Tatum did not want to take part with it because he thought that it was about a war film. However, when he read the script he found out that it was more like a fantasy movie similar to other popular ones such as X-Men and Mission Impossible. Dennis Quaid played General Clayton Abernathy or Hawk, who was the team leader. He was actually going to appear in a few scenes but the filmmakers liked his role and the way he portrayed it so they rearranged the film. They gave him 10-15 more scenes and he has recently signed to do two more sequels for the movie.
Rachel Nichols is Shana O’Hara or Scarlett, who is the intelligence expert of the GI Joe team who do not understand why men are attracted to her. Meanwhile, Nichols met a little accident while filming a sequence that is action packed. Ray Park, on the other hand, plays a mute ninja named Snake Eyes. He is suited for the role since he is an expert in martial arts like his character. To make his part more effective, he practiced wushu as well as the poses of the character in the original comic books. He wears a very heavy costume and he had to put in extra effort so that he can move around freely.
One of the men who has a crush on O’Hara or Scarlett is Wallace Weems or Ripcord. This is played by the comedian Marlon Wayans who is an enthusiast of the franchise. He was chosen for the role because of his brilliant performance in his flick the Requiem for a Dream. Being an established funnyman, you will see that he can actually play a serious role and still be humorous in the film. Keep all of these things in mind whether you watch GI Joe online or in the theaters.
